Downloading Stranded Deep

For most people, the idea of being stranded on a desert island is little more than pure fiction. For the team at Beam Team Games, who are developing their first game Stranded Deep, that's an experience they can draw on to make one of the most realistic survival games to date.
Stranded Deep is a survival simulator where you're stranded on a desert island. You have to explore, craft items and tools from the materials found in nature, and maintain your health and safety as the elements of wind, rain, day/night cycles, and thirst all conspire against you.
The team at Beam Team Games are based in Brisbane, Australia and they're building their first game Stranded Deep as a labour of love. I sat down with the team to discuss the past, present and future of Beam Team Games and their work on Stranded Deep.
What is Stranded Deep?
Stranded Deep is a survival simulator where you're stranded on a desert island. You have to explore, craft items and tools from the materials found in nature, and maintain your health and safety as the elements of wind, rain, day/night cycles, and thirst all conspire against you. The game features solid support for Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets and a first-person perspective by default, but you can play on a monitor as well.
Stranded Deep is currently in development for Windows, Mac and Linux on PC with no release date confirmed yet. You can check out more information about Stranded Deep at their website here: http://www.strandeddeepgame.com/

General gameplay
At the moment you can run around, jump and swim in a full 3D environment. The world is completely open to explore from day one so expect long walks along the beach with your trusty fishing rod or building yourself a shelter out of bamboo straight away. There are no levels in Stranded Deep, instead there's a fully-destructible world that lets you carve out your own slice of paradise in this sandbox.
The team are actively adding new features to the game every day with the ultimate goal of creating a quality survival sim.
Beam Team Games is made up of highly experienced developers with backgrounds at some of the most respected companies in Australia, including Halfbrick (Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride), Defiant Development (The Dwarves) and Blue Tongue (Kung Fu Chaos).
Tips for surviving in the game
The team recommends you build a few camps along the beach and keep them stocked with supplies so your inventory doesn't get overloaded. They also recommend you always keep all your crafting items within easy reach. If you're going to craft a new item, try to place it nearby for when you're done with the current one.
You can start crafting straight away in Stranded Deep, but the early items take a lot of time to craft and you may need to either adjust your playstyle or save up for better equipment. As you gain more experience on your island it's important to learn how everything works so you can use the environment around you as a tool.
Conclusion
Stranded Deep is still in the early stages of development but it's already looking good. The team are building upon what's made other crafting-based survival games popular and they're also doing their best to stand out from the crowd.
